Phone & Email Support
As your doula, you can expect ongoing e-mail support throughout your entire pregnancy. I will also be on call 24/7 beginning 2 weeks before your due date.
1-2 Prenatal Visits
Depending on the package that you purchase, we will set up 1-2 prenatal visits. During these visits, we will discuss what your hopes are during your birthing process. I will also provide you with valuable information and resources for everything from pain management techniques to setting up your postpartum support system.
Professional Information
I will provide you with professional, evidence based information on the basic topics as well as any other areas that you are interested in. Some examples include breastfeeding, nutrition, and helpful labor positions.
During labor
Once in labor, I will be by your side throughout the entire birthing process. I will provide you with pain managament techniques as well as physical, mental, and emotional support for you and and labor partner.
Baby’s first feeding support
After your baby is born, I will help facilitate skin-to-skin contact as well as baby's first feeding. If you choose not to breastfeed, I will stay until you are comfortably settled in or no longer request my services (approx. 1 hour after birth).
Postpartum follow-up visit
During your postpartum follow-up visit, we will go over your birth experience. I will also provide you with resources and information to help you during those first few weeks.
Community Referrals
When the information that you are seeking is out of my scope of practice, I will provide you with community referrals. This may include everything from in depth breastfeeding help to local mommy groups.
As a Doula, I Do Not:
Make decisions for you
I will provide you with the materials that you need in order to make well informed decisions. However, it is your privilege and responsibility to make the best decision for you and your family.
Perform any clinical tasks
I do not perform clinical tasks such as exams or placing IV's. This also includes medical advice and diagnosis. These jobs are the sole responsibilty of your midwife, doctor, nurse, or other medically trained care provider.
Speak to the staff on your behalf
I will remind you of your written birth plan and will inform you if we are deviating from it. It is your responsibility, however, to communicate your questions and wishes to the staff.
Project any of my own beliefs onto your experience
I will provide you the opportunity to make fully informed choices and I will respect the decisions that you make, even if they differ from the choices that I would make for myself. I am on your side and I do not judge.
